Greetings,

On behalf of the Philo affiliates of Mu Zeta Sigma Alumnae Chapter, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated, we look forward to serving Kankakee County. The Philo’s Club is an affiliate organization to Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., was created in 1943. The name Philo, which means “friend” in Greek, was given to the organization in 1954.

 

The Philo’s consists of women of high caliber, dedication, and commitment and who share the sorority’s principles of sisterhood and service. The Philo Affiliates are a group of women who do not have a four-year college degree, who share the sorority’s principles and are interested in helping Sigma Gamma Rho render service to humankind and improve the community.

Purpose

The purpose of the Philo Affiliate is to unite women of the highest caliber; To help develop and support educational and cultural work among Rhoers and Teentown; To take part in such other activities that will strengthen Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and improve civic and community conditions at the local, regional, and national levels. To function as an affiliate to the local Sigma Gamma Rho Alumnae Chapter.

 

The activities of the Philo Affiliate are usually centered around the Sorority’s service projects.  The Philo’s also contribute significantly to scholarship funds locally, regionally, and nationally. In addition, Philo’s usually are involved with the NAACP, March of Dimes, and community service projects such as women’s health awareness, areas of education (Mental Health, Human Trafficking and Slavery, Breast Cancer Awareness, Maternal Health).

We look forward to working with the community through service.
